I'm a free-spirited photographer, soon-to-be yoga teacher, gold medal aunt, aromatherapy lover, and grand adventurer who loves nothing more than warm evenings on the porch with her husband, dogs, cats and a good bourbon.
Martin worked all day, hard, with the painter. Rollie was fired and confined to the house and flowers. After my first 3 minutes out around the deck I managed to step off and fall in a hole landing splat on the ground with my legs up in the air. The painter man just turned, looked, shook his head and went back to work.
My next attempt at helping resulted in Rollie getting the darkest stain on her shoe and pressing it onto the other freshly colored boards. Then I was fired.
The pups and Lilly spent about 3 hours inside sleeping in the air conditioning. Cooling and allowing the guys to finish the deck without their assistance. Only a tad more annoying than my own.
We've ended up with 4 stains mixed into the decking instead of the 3 we agreed on because along with some true professionals Lowes Hardware has alot of f*** ups who have no clue what they are doing and don't know how to properly mix paint EVEN THOUGH that is the department they were hired for! But we've always had a love, hate relationship with Lowes.
As it would have taken a million dollar bribe to get us off the property last night, we decided to load the pups and Lilly in the truck with chairs and a cooler and snacks and drive them down to their little swimming creek. We'd set up shop and just chill by the creek. Watching little knotty heads jump up the currents.
The pups were so excited to see the tailgate come down on the truck but a bit disappointed to find we were just going to their old swimming hole they walked to everyday.
I found something across the water that I just kept hoping wouldn't move....especially if I had a beer or two and didn't know where it went.....forgive the graininess...I didn't have the big lens. I swear the thing was 4 inches by 3.....
When it cooled off on the creek bank and bugs were nipping at me we loaded up and drove back to the house. Earl just sat on the back looking like, "Well that can't be it. That was the stupid creek. Where are we really going?" So we decided to drive them up the drive to the meadow where Atlas was buried. The place we go to picnic and watch the sun set. This seemed to excite the pups but Lilly refused to get off the truck. She'd had enough of these foolish little trips around her own home....With the pain it causes her hips, she has to hold out for the really cool adventures.
But what a great night....and a great start to a long weekend at home.

Happy Birthday Ben....3!
Ben's party last night centered around Count Von Count from Sesame Street. I thought I did a pretty good impersonation and Ben seems to enjoy it but my husband informed me I sound nothing like the Count. And since I sometimes fail to believe him my sister chimed in and said "I don't know what you were doing but the Count sounds nothing like that." Fine. Both of you are smarty pants anyway. And Ben likes it. Maybe because I look like a fool.
I might not can do the Count but I am betting if Earl and Eudora heard Elmo on Sesame Street they would think it was their mom.....as I catch myself talking to them in this high pitch squeal..."Oh, WHAT's MAMA GOT??? A Tweat! YEAH A TWEAT. YEAH for little puppies!" That kind of silliness and it does sound alot like Elmo.
See this is where "Bubbles and Babies" comes in....I don't just assign names to my post for no reason. I loved the automatic bubble machine and will ask to borrow it for my own deck party. I will have it blowing along with the cheap jalapeno pepper lights I am going to go get at Big Lots to string around the top....or flamingos. It is going to be spectacular!
And speaking of my deck. Last night we came in and sat on our back porch awhile enjoying the newness....and every pet was out with us. I love it. Today we finish painting. "Yeah" yes that was in my Elmo voice.
It was nice seeing Amy's sister Sherry whom I haven't seen in years but often hear about and her nephews....and Mike and Brooke and Anita, Delane's old, old friends....always a pleasure. Just kidding about the old, old. ( I will always be older so I can't do that. ) and the Eads...delightful company. And my own family clan....
I am still working on the Ben "Party of 3" birthday photo album in the sidebar....
Afterward my hubby took me for a snack and a margarita to unwind from a long hard week. And to kick of Memorial Day weekend.....and on our way home.....Ta Da! Just for me!
