I'm a free-spirited photographer, soon-to-be yoga teacher, gold medal aunt, aromatherapy lover, and grand adventurer who loves nothing more than warm evenings on the porch with her husband, dogs, cats and a good bourbon.
Headed out this AM to Charleston, SC with mom, Sharon and Aunt Dianna. I think we are going to have a big time. Lookout Charleston!
Music? While riding home yesterday the song "Love Bites" came on. It is truly one of those songs that is hard to turn the dial on if you are a child of the '80s. You think about it and then the main chorus hits and you just have to sing along with it. You just have no control over yourself.
I also noticed while driving and singing along with "Love Bites" and catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror that I don't even move my mouth like a real singer. I'm not a good singer, I've shared that, but now I realize I truly don't even look like a singer. I watched myself while coming down the driveway (I waited so I wouldn't wreck in the highway) and my mouth just doesn't work right for singing. Real singers just have the mouth and expressions for it naturally I think, the good ones anyway.
Idol? I'm not even going to comment on Sanjaya. Screw it. They can send the curly haired Chris or Haley or Phil (though he was good last night) home if they want. I don't even care. Just leave my girl Melinda, my girl Jordin and my boy Blake alone.
Dancing? Man I was bummed when they cut Paulina. I only cut on the last few secs last night to see. Paulina was like my idol. I think she is one of the most beautiful models ever and I voted for her. Her and the cool skater dude Apollo and Ian. Ian because I still can remember everything that ever happened on 90210.
My beautiful white tulips I was so excited to grow are up and I'm leaving them....go figure.
I've always been partial to the black and white cats. It seemed like I always took the biggest kitty, solid black or black/white mix. Delane always took the little yellow kitten and Melanie took the runt. Or was stuck with the runt I guess. Oddly it seemed that most of our litters turned out to have 3 kittens that fit that criteria.
These photos were made in Jan-Mar 1987. Right before my 21st birthday. We'd had a difficult time with the loss of Punk, short for Punkin', that was our indoor beloved kitty. The above was my outdoor cat at the time, Boss. Named for Springsteen himself. He had a tiny brother named Baby Cakes. I am guessing Melanie named him because at this point Delane was 17, a senior in high school, and I doubt he could have cared the least about the cats around them. Both of them very loving cats.
This was Baby Cakes....the hunter, and pictured with Melanie and Sharon's little cousin Joni. That makes me feel very, very old. Joni is married living in Richmond now with a Masters...oh where does the time go! Boss and Baby Cakes were born in our barn as many of our family pets were. There has always been kittens in that barn.....I could probably find one in there now if I looked hard enough. I'm surprised Caleb hasn't pulled any out lately.
It seems strange, sad, and comforting all at one time going back through my old photo albums.
No real story here today as we begin the "cat tales". I'm off to Charleston Wed. AM and I'm so behind home and photo project wise......I had to start off with an easier one.
I've always had a weak spot for the family critters whether indoor, outdoor, wild or bed buddies.....and my photo albums reflect that.
And where was I in these 1987 shots?......okay, don't make fun of the hair...it was trendy at the time. (my hairdresser told me bigger hair was coming back, I said good because my hair can do big) I was also doing my own color at this point and I can only HOPE that was the camera tint and not what it actually looked like! I match the little orange cat!
Is that not the cutest cake EVER? Wow, I was so sweet. Even sweeter was Delane, Amy and the boys having it made for me. (along with homemade vanilla ice cream...YUM) I had an awesome birthday...the whole weekend, I couldn't ask for more.
I know own the most adorable little lady bug bedroom slippers from Melanie, Eric, Caleb, Izzy and Seth. Along with a Newlywed DVD game that Toonces had best do very well. I have a charming new bird house hand painted by Jackson. Ben did me a picture for my wall of an ice cream robot....exactly what my office was missing.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wasn't half bad.....
Husbands? I was so proud of my 41 year old portrait I'd done for my profile here. And what did Toonces do? He made me take it down. He said it was too provocative. What???? Men. Now you guys are stuck with the cheesy me. Sorry.
Thanks for all the kind words and birthday wishes guys!
I think Ben was ready for us to leave his house....poor thing.
And I am easily snagged! I have been delighted with the gifts I've gotten this week.
I wanted a nice birthday portrait to celebrate 41. This is Toonces's camera work. It does show off my new birthday skirt and new heels. It would be nice to have someone else be able to work a camera every now and then. I guess I'll have to get the tripod out. .....my head was all in the shade. You couldn't even tell what I looked like.
My friend Michelle sent me these yesterday....they smell so good.
My buddy Sharon gave me this gorgeous butterfly that goes with my pretty hummingbirds. (Notice the land cleared in the background)
I've been out late the past couple of nights......really late for me. For my birthday weekend continuing celebration today Toonces and I are doing a ton of yard work and tonight he is watching The Holiday with me.....just a nice quiet day.
Tomorrow the real party will be with Caleb, Jackson, Isabelle, and Ben and the Mutant Ninja Turtles....or the Mimzi thing if some decide to split off. We are having cake after a movie at Amy and Delane's . The weather is supposed to be 80! Woo HOO!
