Opening Day at The Clark Pond~
Rollie lands a big one!
Papa, who was nice enough to pass along his rod to one of the kids if he felt a bite, did not pass the rod off when he landed this monster trout. About 22 inches long. He was fishing with Izzy's little pink Barbie pole and dad getting that big boy down the dock to the bank with that tiny breaking rod was one of the funniest things fishing I've ever seen. Papa was excited about this big guy. (The boys don't look so happy to be near a big one!)
We should have taught Papa the real angler pose. Can you tell our guide has taught us all too well the skill of fish posing? Hey you never know when you might show up in Trout Unlimited or something so we have that move down pat.
Caleb looks about like Huck Finn in the one with no shoes. Jackson hauls in his own mess of fish and even Baby Seth lands one. Though afterward he seemed more concerned with his tobaggon coming off than the fish itself. Isabelle is a natural at casting.
It was a great day. I'd been looking forward to the day Ben could come learn to fish. He hasn't gotten to fish as much as the others in his lifetime. The first one Toonces had rigged and in the water I heard little Ben say after about 5 minutes of fishing.."This is taking too long." The small ones will enjoy Bluegill fishing with bobbers much more but we won't put those in for a few more months.
Melanie was the fishing champ of the day bringing in at least 5 trout.
Papa had the biggest, followed by mine.
And the only 2 that were completely shut out...SKUNKED as it is called...were Toonces and Delane.
We should've cut their shirt tails off. Don't ask me why. That is just an old timer's rule.

Pan fried trout? Trout almandine? What secret recipes does the Clark family have?

Trout Almandine? Strange I made Chicken Almandine last night!
I've never been envious in my life until now. Bare feet, no jackets, fishing in a pond where you actually catch something! Wow, how much fun is that? Me? I'll be shoveling and ice chopping again in a few hours. I'm green!

WOW! Now casting an envious, piscatorial eye on your pond! ;)

Barbie rod! I love it! Kidlet always had Barbie ones too. I couldn't help but laugh when she caught a fish and her dad had to help her reel it in. I think hers snapped too. I like pond fishing. I sometimes wish we had one. Mr. does saltwater fishing and that includes WAY too much deep water all around me, so I stay away from that. I looks like a fun day!

Thanks for inviting us, it was a lot of fun. This morning Ben woke up and started talking about the leaf he caught. "even I caught a seaweed. Just one though." He went along naming everyone that caught a leaf, Seth caught one, Deana caught a leaf, etc... then said with a snicker "Melanie didn't catch a leaf." So in Ben's eyes, Melanie might have won the fish battle, but she lost badly in the leaf category.
Jackson was proud that he helped save the ones that swam away and, at the same time, was happy that he and Caleb named the dead ones and got to play with their heads. That's two ends of a spectrum right there.

Wasted I wasn't there. I would love to land myself a big trout as well. It has been years since I last went fishing and most of the time it would be either inshore or out shore in the deep black water sea. I even managed to see a 30 feet whale shark swimming under the boat. Should have taken my camera then to show the proof.. :P
Well, I hope I can find the time to go fishing again. I missed catching my 10kg mackerel and another record breaking almost 6 feet long Black Kingfish or Rachycentron canadum (Haruan Tasik in Malay). Sounds scary right? Haha :P
Anyway, glad to know that you all had a great outing. Have a great week Deana! :)
