Rollie's Childhood Crushes

“Love isn't finding a perfect person. It's seeing an imperfect person perfectly.”

Did anyone see Idol Gives Back tonight?  Wow, that is something.  And how cool to be apart of that.

I was thinking as I watched it how sometimes at night I pray to just keep things as they are...if I could just have one more day like today because I am in love, I'm happy, my husband, parents, grandma, niece, nephews, brother, sister, my best friends...they are all healthy and with me...my dogs and cats, just life can be so good some days I just don't want it to end.

But then as I watch the footage from Africa and Louisiana and Kentucky (the Appalachia's) and I had this thought that while I am thinking this and praying for NO CHANGE for another day how many people are just going to bed wondering how much longer can they hold on?  How can they go another day hungry?  How does a 15 year old child raising his 3 small brothers because his parents are dead with AIDS, how does HE feel at night?  What are HIS prayers?

I'm not going to go into a spill on giving back.  I know most everyone that comes here already gives- money, time, heart...but still it makes you think.

Anyway, tonight I have decided that after seeing all these blogs do posts on their early crushes that, yeah, that sounds like a fun thing to do.  So I have compiled some of my early and some of my strangest crushes to date.

I must have a thing for older men.  My first crush that was a REAL crush that I can remember was Jim West from Wild Wild West.  Conrad1 I loved him and I loved that show.  It came on after school.  So I'd sit with my snacks and watch him and Happy Days.

And okay, Happy Days, I gotta say, I liked ChaChi.  How could you not?

Conrad_2

Chachi I even watched Charles In Charge.

Another crush very early on was from Bonanza.  I still like to watch that show and occasionally on a rainy Saturday afternoon I might watch it with Toonces.  Adam_and_hoss It wasn't little Joe that I loved, no he was too young and foolish for me.  It was Adam.  He was smart, he wore black and he was hot.  And Hoss, who couldn't love Hoss?  But I did covet Lil' Joe's horse and that is why I have a Paint today.

Now there is a "something about me tidbit" you probably didn't know.

Chips I would've wanted a date w/Ponch, but I'd of settled for John.

Leif This was my boyfriend in elementary school... and my baby sister's too.  I thought he was just dreamy.  Does anyone remember when Leif starred on Chips?  UmHmmm, we might be tellin' our age.

Travolta1 Travolta2 Travolta was my man.  These are still 2 of my favorite movies.  Strangely though, I don't have the same kind of crush on him now.  He got older than me quicker somehow.  It was like he jumped from Danny into the Look Who's Talking Guy and that guy was a grown up and I was still so young so our romance faded.  I still love him but no crush.  Kinda like I've always loved Burt Reynolds but as a father figure.

Let's see...one of the first guys I actually remember dreaming I married was this hottie Rick I was in the 10th grade.

A singer I liked when I was a tiny wee thing was this guy, I still have to love this guy...but again no crush.  Rod

In 1984 this made my heart beat a little faster...Brucebutt .

This guy was..is...but back then I think he was, well he just was (is) Bon_jovi_1   things that make you go yum.

Oh and the boy before the Rock of Love man...Bret_2

So we've gone from early elementary through high school.  But I haven't given you my biggest crush after my boy Robert Conrad.  A show came on in 1979 called Cliffhangers.  And it had a Dracula's Curse segment.  The only other one I remember was with Susan Anton that tall blond woman...but anyway I loved this show and I can still remember the episodes and I remember when they killed my vampire and going out to the greenhouse where my parents were  (yes, my parents had greenhouses when we were young and sold plants so I guess that is why I have so many flowers)  and just squalling because they killed Dracula.  Thus, my big infatuation with vampires was born.  Nouri_2

When Flashdance came out I thought OMG there is my vampire!  But I wasn't as taken with him minus the fangs.

A grown up weird crush...Sting .  I know wrestling was fake but it had some big years there and my BFF happens to LOVE wrestling so we'd have a bunch of friends over to watch.  Well whatever those big events are that you had to pay money to watch.    I'd watch just to make her happy but once Sting retired from swooping down out of the rafters I gave up my brief obsession with wresting.  Sting was hot.

An older man I like besides Sean Connery...212064samelliottposters .  I think he is one of the sexiest men alive, right up there with Toonces.  ('Cause I know you are going to read this honey.)

One that T man doesn't get but I make him watch the movie with me over and over...12754__dracula_l ...I just have a thing for blood suckers I guess.

Well and pirates.  I may be 80 before I outgrow this crush...Capn_jack

For Tate (and Michelle):  My buddy won $100 on a basketball pool.  She had lost a big pool she was in when Memphis lost.   I was telling Toonces about her win.   He asked me if she really knew about and kept up with basketball and watched games or if she just liked doing the pools.  I said " Oh no, she keeps up with it all.  She is a big Duke fan."  He said "Well if she pulls for Duke that would prove she doesn't know that much about basketball."

And I knew I had to post that...Ah, I loved it.  I hate Duke.

Those are quite a combo of crushes you had there. I loved Richard Chamberlain as Dr. Kildare and planned to marry him one day. Then I left him for 'Nick' on the Big Valley (he was hotheaded like me and hot to trot, lol!) After our romance cooled off I fell in love with Davey Jones of The Monkeys and David Cassidy of The Partridge Family. Oh yes, there were numerous affairs in between those 2 until I spotted Andy Garcia and George Strait. I'm still torn between those 2 loves to this day! ;)

LOL, LOL...This is the first Blog Crush Post I have seen, Deanna....! Some of these people I know and some I don't...But I can really tell our age difference with these Crushes of yours....If I were to mention miner...Well, you might not know who any of thewm were...Yes, were...Most are dead npw! LOL!
John Payne? John Garfield? Those were two of my earliest crushes and both were film stars...(All before TV)....But this was fun to read!

Travolta was so so so thin!!!!!!!!
I always like that Travolta thin movie, hahahaha~~~
Just.....his face is never back from the big face now....so...my dream was gone, and I woke up for years, hahahaha~~~~

Seeing these bring so many my memories. Suddenly thinking of Mission Impossible the TV version, and The Young Riders, and AUTOMAN....Wowww....this is all my 10 years old TV program..... So long ago!!

I felt the same way watching the AI thing. Do those kids even have hopes and dreams anymore or is there life at such a young age already consumed with just staying alive?

I am dying over your Jim West crush. I had the biggest crush on him when I was a girl. Jim West and James Bond (the REAL James Bond).

We all loved James West! I had major crushes on Mark Lester (of Oliver! fame) and Donny Osmond. I came within four feet or so of the latter, and I was convinced I would marry him.

BTW, have you seen recent photos of Leif (or is he still alive?)? Age has not been kind.

Did you have posters all over your bedroom walls? (do you now?)
Sorry, I didn't have a crush on any of those you listed. Johnny Depp is interesting, and I just loved how John Travolta danced the twist in Pulp Fiction, but no crush there.

Hey, we've had some of the same crushes. John Travolta! I was devestated when he ended up getting married. Now I'm over him though.

With your love for "blood suckers" do your visitors wear neck guards at night????? LOL!

Would you believe that I actually have Leif Garrett with "I was made for dancin'" on my playlist on this laptop? LOL

And yes, Sean Connery and Sam Elliot are right down my ally as well :D
Travolta was never my type, but there are not a lot of things that I wouldn't do for the pirate-type of Johnny Depp...or Vin Diesel :p

Richard Chamberlain was a crush I had a long time ago while the TV series Thorn Birds was popular. Today he seems a bit too...feminine or something. I don't know...just not my type any more.

Nick Nolte was another crush I had in the 70's when he was Tom Jordashe in "Rich Man, Poor Man".

Geez...I could go on forever...LOL

And you're right. We are all fortune to have what we need on a daily basis. A lot of people don't and I have no clue how they handle that bit. Every day must be such a burden, no matter what they are use to or not.

Now I'm blogging in your blog :p
Hope you're doing good :D

What a fun post ! Our list is a lot a like.
I will always be a big John Travolta fan and I just found out over the weekend that my uncle lives in his neighborhood and wants us to come visit.

Oh, I thought is was awesome when my childhood friend gave me her CHiPs bookcovers! Do you happen to remember Emergency? (you know the cute guy on his red firetruck and the ambulance driver) I was a little behind you, but this was a cool flash to the past!!! My kids asked who "Tonto" was... *oh, man*

We havea lot of the same crushes. I'm the same with Travolta he's sorta meh now. Sam Elliot....I could listen to him talk forever. Rick, Leif and of course Jon! :)

Huh, Poncho, John and Chachi for me too. :)

well, those guys never did anything for me... Now Ginger on Gillan's Island (for someone who was recently in the news)...

One crush that has stayed with me all my years is Al Pacino. I first fell hard watching him in the movie "The Panic in Needle Park" (1971). Even after all these years.. he still makes my heart flutter. :-)
