I'm a free-spirited photographer, soon-to-be yoga teacher, gold medal aunt, aromatherapy lover, and grand adventurer who loves nothing more than warm evenings on the porch with her husband, dogs, cats and a good bourbon.
At 11:30 this morning my 3 year old nephew Seth and my 3 year old cousins (and my 10 month cousin) are coming to a CANDYLAND party hosted by me.
How could that not be a grand time?
The parties continue as I think Toonces and I will be attending a Super Bowl party. Since the Super Bowl started in 1966, and I was born in March of that year, (I know, I'm getting there) the numbers that flash all over the screen that day are constant reminders of what is coming for me in March.
Super Bowl 21 was fun.
Super Bowl 30 was not.
Though I like Kurt Warren's story I have to pull for the Steelers.
That is all Jackson would give me. He has traitor-ed over to the yucky sucky Cowboy's side. Maybe his mama's doing. I told him that worked out well for him didn't it. Since we don't see any blue and gray in the Super Bowl now do we?
I just remembered doing this post that it was I who bought Jackson that Roethlisberger jersey and almost fainted when the guy rang it up. I had no idea that stuff was so expensive until J man came along. So I think I should call him and tell him he has to wear it Sunday or no more presents. But that might be too mean. And he did ask for a Romo jersey first but I told him I would vomit in the store if I had to purchase that. He must've talked someone else into that one.
I'm a Redskin's fan.
Can you tell?
With Pittsburgh second and of course Carolina.
And while I am aggravating my Dallas fan friends, what about that Duke/ Wake game hm-mm?
Well people sure don't come here for the sports so let's move on.
I haven't even posted on American Idol yet this season. I have enjoyed watching the pre-Hollywood weeks more than I ever have. They have shown some tremendous talent already and not so much of the silly people, the crazy people and the ones who fall apart when told they can't sing. It has been a nice balance and I am already hooked. And I have to say I like the new judge. I have favorites this early. Maybe that is what producers were hoping for.
Darius- Because the pets are tired of the kids hogging all the blog attention.
One of the best things about having the pond is never knowing who (or what) might show up for a visit.
I found this when I went in to get horse feed at Tractor Supply the other day. Technically Toonces is a far cry from a farmer and we don't "raise" anything BUT the fact that I am in a Tractor Supply alone should give me some cause to wear the T. Then yesterday as I put my horse Spirit in a stall and threw out hay to the horses in the freezer rain, and crawled up into the hay to search for eggs, I thought you darn-tootin' I can wear that shirt.
And heaven knows we have enough chickens.
If nothing else I have that 'farm girl love of my land' thing going on. Possessing land to me is one of the most important things in life. Like it was to my grandparents and is to my dad. I doubt that matters much to people say in New York City. I think that might be my biggest tie to being a country girl. We were barely back from the honeymoon and I had walked every inch of this property making sure I knew what was what. Toonces didn't even know he had some of the creeks he had on his property. That was just shocking to me.
So I am more about land and earth and fresh air (and maybe the high heels and boots I walk over it in) and Toonces is more books and law I guess. He'd never even thought about using his backyard for a place of leisure until I came along. Now he loves it.
Maybe I should find a t-shirt for him that reads "The Farmer's Husband."
With Martin kicking off the 2009 Sunday with Friends series at the Washington Country Library in Abingdon, Virginia he and I got to go up Saturday and spend the night in the Martha Washington. I love the town of Abingdon. I love all the little unique stores on the streets. Famous for the Barter Theatre among other things, this town just has a lot to offer the grown up looking for a get away in a quiet town with lots of history, fine dining, arts and friendly people. I am hoping I can get back for this. The Martha Washington has added some upgrades including a new spa. The dining room is currently being remodeled and is scheduled to reopen Valentine's Weekend.
I love the fact that the inn used to be a finishing school. Looking at the old photos on the wall (along with checking out all the fabulous antiques) is one of my favorite things to do when I visit.
This time I made my first visit to The Tavern. Reminisant of Williamsburg to me I was delighted that it was indeed a real tavern. The history of the place, the large fire in the room with the really low ceiling where I sipped a Belgium wheat beer with an orange slice...the whole thing made me feel like a kid. Not drinking a beer of course, but just the fun of being there. We had dinner in a lovely new restaurant called Willow Jacks and walked the long walk back to the inn in the cold dark air carrying packages of the goodies I acquired making my way down the street. It was actually very romantic so the cold didn't bother me at all. Plus I was well bundled. It was just a great weekend.
Always a sucker for coffee in bed and fluffy white robes.
Care deeply..give freely…think kindly…act gently and be at peace with the world. anonymous
I've decided that if I keep buying fresh flowers for the house I will fool my brain into thinking Spring is just around the corner.
I am looking forward to a getaway with Toonces. I am also looking forward to picking my nephew Jackson up at school tomorrow...hanging out...take some pictures...head back to pick up Ben and Izzy to see the hotel for dogs movie. And the weather is actually going to be pleasant. Hoo hoo.
My friend Carolyn at The Ginger Quill grabbed a letter out of her Scrabble bag for me. Have you seen this on other blogs? Basically I have a letter assigned and I give you 10 things I love or are important to me that start with that letter.
I decided to make a collage. Can you guess my answers by the image?
Let me know in the comments if you'd like a letter too if you haven't done this yet. I will let Darius the cat paw you a letter out of our Scrabble bag.
Did you guess right?
girl friends to do fun stuff with Gerbera Daisies GOOGLE- I love googling greeting cards- I could browse isles of cards for hours. Love Hoops and Yoyo. getaways games gifts GOD glitz and glamour glasses- designer sunglasses to be specific.
Certainly not in that order.
Toonces phoned about the time I was warming dinner and he is held up in court. There aren't many nights I get all alone like this. At first I was sad. Then I realized I could Wii, watch whatever I WANT on TV for a change...he hogs the new big HD TV. And I've decided that after I do a post I am going to curl up in his chair with a good book, a nice glass of Cabernet, the pups at my feet and kitties at my head...and those little 100 calorie cookie packs! I'm ready! See ya!
