- Listen, can you hear it? Spring's sweet cantata. The strains of grass pushing through the snow. The song of buds swelling on the vine. The tender timpani of a baby robin's heart. Spring.
- Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, Northern Exposure, Wake Up Call, 1992
~I had planned on building myself a cottage garden this Spring. With a little white fence and landscaping ties with paths of tiny gravel to different sections. I still would love to have this one day but I don't think I can take it on yet.
With landscaping work to be done down at the pond...I am putting in a bridge, a bench and a primrose, Impatiens, daylilies garden at the edge where the spring runs into the main pond.
With an outdoor room being built before you go out onto the dock...our plan is to have an exposed beam ceiling with a hammock, a bar and a sitting area. Also I'll have storage boxes down there to keep fish food, floats and life jackets in so that we don't have to come up and down the hill to the basement for new toys constantly. The floor will be the rock just like our patio up here at the house. I am also dreaming of native trumpet vines wrapping around the roof.
And then there is the studio. I am looking forward to warmer temps and taking on more clients. Without the gallery I can focus on my own individual work. I am so excited that I have been invited to do a show of my portraits this summer! I don't have all the details yet but I will share them when I do. I have my fingers crossed that this will give me an excuse to ask some characters of our fine county to do their portrait.
So, with that going on, I decided it wasn't a good time to take on the responsibility of a full garden. Instead I am going to add many more pots to my patio and deck and harvest that way. Last year we were blessed with many tomatoes and herbs so this year maybe I will add some lettuces and squash. Plus I won't have to kill Toonces's chickens for destroying my cottage garden and I have a very sneaking suspicion that they would do just that.
~My own favorite muses keep me busy. Caleb did some basketball photos in the studio while they were out for the snow.
A few of Caleb's shots.
I would also just like to say since I do keep this Blog for me that last Friday a very good man passed away. Just a wonderful, fun loving guy who treated you the same every time he saw you. He was just a true joy to be around and had a heart to match his large 6 ft 7 or so frame. The world still has good people. Sometimes we forget that I think. And we lost one last Friday. It was an honor to have known you Franklin Cox!
I wonder who will be spending the most time in the hammock. Also add a small fridge for the margarittas?

Caleb could be the younger version of that Twilight star that all the girls are swooning over. It's in the eyes, and perhaps his highlights. Not sure what. Just what I think when I see these pics especially the center one.
Have a good weekend.

Ooh la la Dalia. That's exciting news about showing your portraits. Caleb looks a bit like you in the second shot. Is it almost spring again? How did that happen?
