My home is a haven for one
The clamor of children and
From a number of dogs
who are always about,
And who want to come in
and, once in, to go out. ~ Ralph Wotherspoon, "My Dumb Friends"
When we had only a few flowers, mostly gladiolas here and there, I would make a huge elaborate floral arrangement for the living room, the dining room, the bedroom. I dreamed of the day I'd have flowers galore for the house. I'd comb the meadows for enough wild flowers to add to the few stems of glamor and then throw in some lemon balm for greenery plus a nice fresh clean scent.
Now I have this nice garden and I can't bare to cut anything off. Only the zinnias are being brought in, well because zinnia's demand to be cut to do well at all. I forced myself to take 2 smaller varieties of sunflower in yesterday for my kitchen window with the zinnia cuts.
Now when I look at the full bunches I think "Oh I need that there for that full burst of color....I need all the purple I can get" I grew extra cala lilies for arrangements but couldn't dare cut one. They last so long in the garden.
My dream is still to have a garden so full of flowers that I won't notice one missing.....the kind you see in magazines....but will I be even worse about cutting one then?
I'm not sure about the new banner and color scheme I've done today... I am going to have to think about it over the weekend. Feel free to let me know if you like it or not. I just don't know and that is usually a bad sign. I should feel at home right off correct? I like it but is it summery enough? Eudora was once again the only pet at the right place at the right time.
Happy Birthday my Darling!
Toonces will be having a birthday tomorrow.....He is getting on up there so I told him I would really have to start watching his health. And reminded him that in just a few years he'd be having the celebrated colonoscopy. I am such a sweet wife.
We are headed up to Charlottesville. Toonces graduated law school from UVA... and he has best friends who live out in horse country so that is where he chose to spend his birthday.
Enjoy your weekend!
