Delane, Amy, Jackson, Ben and their cousin Jesse came for dinner last night. My brother has been working more and more in Martinsville....and our house is pretty much a mid point between their home and Martinsville. I thought it would be nice to meet in the middle one night. Of course it ended up being an evening he was in Mount Airy but that is okay. We enjoyed having them over.
The deepest part of the pond is about 5 feet 8 inches. T man stripped down the other night to see just how deep his pond really was. It is exciting to think of how nice the finished project will be.
Colleen do you like Amy's shirt? It has lawyer instead of Doctor. Jackson told her "But I can't trust you because it isn't true and that means you told a lie."
Our dinner was salmon cakes, chicken tenders (in case the kids disliked my salmon cakes) cole slaw, niblets, biscuits and mashed potatoes. I hate peeling potatoes so Toonces and I always have the Betty Crocker boxed Butter Style version (it is very good). When I was on vacation with my family last October, Melanie went into this kitchen store to buy a peeler that was supposed to be just super fantastic. It was even on sale and she was delighted. Of course I wanted one too because I hate peeling.
I tried it once near Christmas and I couldn't figure out how that was supposed to be any good at all. Mine was crappy. I almost threw it away but decided to ask Melanie first if hers worked and if maybe I wasn't holding mine right or something.
Last night I looked at that pile of potatoes. I thought about trying to bribe Jackson with money to do them for me and decided his parents wouldn't let him use a knife yet. Ben was far too young to be of any use in the situation and Jesse I don't know quite well enough to bribe. I went back into the "drawer of a thousand gimmick accessories" for the peeler. I tried...looked at it to check the angles and then wondered....."What is this plastic piece?" When it hit me that it was a cover just like for my sharp razors. How foolish I was and how wonderful that peeler worked! I flew through those potatoes.
They weren't very good because it had been so long since I'd done any from scratch I was way too low on salt and butter and pepper and probably milk...but now I know!
The boys seem to like throwing things into the muddy water. Ben's got bigger every time he went for something. They started with small rocks.
Oh Lucy! I have become even more absent minded. At times it scares me. I have to let the bathtub faucet drip for Baby cat and the other day I just completely forgot it. Toonces found it hours later....running! I have left the oven on almost every day for weeks. I forget to dry the laundry and have to rewash it. I've burned the hummingbird food over and over in one night....hard to ruin sugar water but boil it until its almost gone probably changes the ratio too much! I keep leaving the cats trapped in the house. I'm just a mess.
Sunday evening I was watering my flowers and back deck and I had to go into the house for a container maybe? I can't even remember now but I like to leave the sliding door to the kitchen open when I work. It drives Toonces crazy but I like all of us to be in and out together...cats, dogs, him, bees...whatever. Anyway I laid the hose down on the deck and went in another door to pee first and then went into the kitchen where I discovered that Lucy had laid the hose on it's handle and it was spraying a line directly into my kitchen! All on the Persian kitchen rug, all under my antique cabinet, all over the stainless bar....I could've died! I had to work fast too because I just couldn't stand the thoughts of Toonces seeing that! I can't loose my hose privileges!!!
