We're Still Here!
We've been putting the "labor" in Labor Day Weekend.
After a huge yard sale Saturday that was very successful we started our kitchen/dining room remodeling project. I've picked out a tealish peacock blue to replace the lovely deep blue in our dining room. I thought it would perk it up a bit and make it more modern. The floors in there will be a dark walnut hardwood.
The kitchen floors will now be a Spanish looking tile with tiny painted tiles of blue flowers mixed in. I am really happy to be getting rid of our brick floors(they were in both rooms). They had a fantastic vibe but they were a b*tch to mop. The tile won't change the vibe so much but will make it fresher. Last night after an afternoon at Lowe's we pulled up the brick floors and took everything out of the dining room. We also had a gym workout yesterday so I slept like a baby last night.
I am also adding a cabinet in my kitchen and having custom stained glass designed for the glass cabinets over the oven.
I told Toonces no doubt the cats would make a bed out of the rolled up Persian rug out of the dining room. This morning first thing...Calista had made her bed on it. What funny animals.
Great Start to the Day...yesterday we had our dear friend Michelle stop by on her way home from visiting her family here in Patrick. She lives in Charlotte and it was so nice to get to catch up with her. We all had breakfast and talked over coffee and that was just a great way to start the day.
You know you're country when... you burn your daddy Jerry Clower cds off i-Tunes.
Non country folks won't even have a clue who that is and only people my age that had parents that used to listen to him would know him. But when Rollie was a wee one her daddy used to tell her the tales of Marcel Ledbetter and his chainsaw or coon hunting dilemmas....I can remember lying in bed and saying tell it again daddy. I would laugh and laugh. Dad was a great story teller. So I thought he could let the grandkids listen to the cd with him.
I laughed and laughed just listening to the stories again while they were downloading.
Another award for me? I was thrilled to see that I'd been recognized on The Rising Blogger. That really is exciting for me. Actually I am honored. You can see I've added it to my sidebar. I love getting to know new bloggers and this site has some great blogs listed so go check them out.
Giving away the Nice Matters Award:
I had the toughest time with this...there are too many nice people that I have as blog friends. I broke this down by not only people who were very nice to me, checking on my via email, always leaving nice comments....I also decided to go for people who I knew in real life were involved with their communities and gave heart and soul to their friends and family. So I pass this Nice Matters award that I was so tickled to win from Jenn (who is also deserving but since she has already won she is okay)....
Sage at Sage Covered Hills. If you are a regular at Sage's then you know how nice this man really is. Always recognizing blog friends birthdays or hardships this guy is involved with the youth and his community. He has had posts on his trips away with kids or cooking for some fund raiser. Plus he is just a nice guy with nice posts.
Jade at Jaded Halls. If you only know Jade from her colorful comments here then you probably don't really know what a nice caring person Jade is. If you are her regular then you know her trials and triumphs, that she volunteers, and you'd know how much she puts into caring for her sons. Her son Twist you see will never leave home, he is not exactly like you and me, but he is wonderful and she is never bitter when she spends the whole night up caring for him when he is sick nor is she bitter over some of the cards life dealt her. This girl talks tough but she has a heart of gold.
Naomi...our Old Lady in the Hills...the hills of LA that is. If you don't know Naomi well then you are just missing out. And the ones of us that do already know that she deserves any Nice Award that comes up. This lady is a true blog friend....caring and sensitive to things going on in the world of her blog friends. She is also a very considerate friend in real life and her blog posts on her parties and brunches and such are a testimony to that because she always has so many friends around! If they didn't like her I doubt they'd be around so often!!!! She is also involved in her community and the arts. So I couldn't give out a "Nice Matters Award" without awarding of Naomi.
That is my three. I wish I could give out twenty. They now pass it on to their on three choices.
Back to the labor! Speaking of nice....here is a photography of my nephew Jackson's morning glory from the seed packets I sent out this spring. I still have to get photos from the others that had them bloom. I should also just put up a picture of the people who were too busy to throw out the seeds from their darling friend, sister or daughter!
