Toonces and I traveled about 4 1/2 hours to a part of Virginia I had never been before. (Stuart is in yellow, Essex county is in red.) We went through Richmond to get there. It was to a small historic town called Tappahannock by the river Rappahannock. The singer Chris Brown is from this area. We stayed at The Essex Inn for the Weekend with a Writer. The inn is charming. I love the fact you can have a fire in your fireplace in your room at any time. Aside from the food, the nice guests we met and being so close to the river, I would have to say my favorite was the kitties who freely roamed the inn.
One of T's law school roomies lived across the river so we visited their incredible home complete with its own sports annex. I shopped while T spoke at the courthouse. Saturday night there was a dinner party at the inn. Sunday we woke to another glorious breakfast and drove back home. It was a different experience for us, our first in a B&B. It turned out to be a very enjoyable weekend but of course when I saw those black heads bounding for me up the drive and Darius come out of the woods along the side to greet us, well there is nothing like home.
Porter greeted us and showed us our room. She also came to visit us Friday night shortly after we went to bed and I heard a scratch and a tiny paw poked under the door. I got up and let her in the bed with me. She slept on my tummy under the covers. Normally she isn't allowed to do that as she has to stay down with her owners but another guest had kept her out past her bedtime so she crashed with us. I loved it.
Yes T made it in the sun but at least it is in focus. That is Martha with me.
The food was always pretty enough for pictures but I couldn't resist this colorful shot.
The large bird has a small fish.
A back side view.
If you would like to see my album of Tappahannock and the Inn click on the sidebar albums or just go here. It really is a beautiful part of the world and photogenic inn so it is worth a peek.
How great was it to come home to mama doing your laundry up? I just noticed this morning. That means I can do the sheets and our weekend laundry and be done! Now that makes me happy.
If I could teach Earl and Eudora to do the grocery shopping I'd have it made!!!
